Cognitive Presence

I found the distinction between triggering, exploration, integration, resolution to be really interesting, as well as how these phases are divided up during the learning process and the engagement process. It makes sense to me that most conversations would happen during the exploration process, and this seems to be a mirror of the public private aspects of learning that I see in my online classes. I create opportunities for students to engage on a forum, where they do a lot of their exploration; integration and resolution tend to happen during the subsequent assignments that I give to them, where the student returns to a private domain and works out the meaning and significance of what they have explored.

I note that my word cloud (the link you provided didn’t work, so I found my own word cloud generator) didn’t provide a lot of context about me; single words didn’t convey the person. We need conversation to develop a sense of one another, and that’s what forums and introductions provide.

I’d like to learn more about how people learn, as I find this process fascinating.

As above, I’ve seen students drift from exploration to integration within the forum, but mostly they stay with exploration, as it’s a safe space in which to do this.
